Artificial Intelligence and Ethics- There are two doocumentaries you might find interesting.
- The first is from the 1992 TV documentary "The Machine That Changed the World". The episode is called "The Thinking Machine".
What is interesting about this one is that there are some footage of
some of the classical systems from the early days of AI research.
Hoiwever, please be aware that this documentary is now twenty years out
of date.
- The second documentary is much more up to date. It is called [The] Artificial Intelligence Documentary and is a BBC production. It is available in a number of parts. Part 1, .Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6. Notice, the optimistic tone adopted here and how it differs from the tone in the previous documentary.
- Here is a link to a reading entitled "What is Artificial Intelligence?".
I wrote it back in 1997, so it is quite out of date and many of the
links no longer work properly. However, since I first posted it, it has
remained popular and has been translated into a few different languages.
- The final resource here is a .pdf filwe of a draft of a paper entitled The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, by Nick Bostrum and Eliezer Yudkowsky, which appears in Cambridge Handbook of Artificial Intelligence, eds. William Ramsey and Keith Frankish (Cambridge University Press, 2011):
