Octocoral Sites
• a website created and maintained by Dr. Gary C. Williams, California Academy of Sciences, that includes a wealth of information, including Keys to the Families, the most recent classifications, lists of genera, bibliography, and more.
• a platform for scientists working with or interested in octocoral research to share their ideas, questions and published works. It is designed to encourage communication among this community and act as a support network for students pursuing soft coral studies.
Other Coral Sites
• updates on deep-sea coral research by the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
• HERMIONE (Hotspot Ecosystem Research and Man's Impact on European Seas) is a Collaborative Project, funded under the European Commission's Framework 7 programme, designed to make a major advance in our knowledge of the functioning of deep-sea ecosystems and their contribution to the production of goods and services.
• an information resource on the cold-water coral ecosystems of the deep ocean.
Deep-Sea Biology Sites
• a daily BLOG on all things deep-sea related.
Seamount Sites
• SeamountsOnline has been gathering data on species that have been observed or collected from seamounts and providing these data through a freely-available online portal. It is designed to facilitate research into seamount ecology, and to act as a resource for managers. It is also the database component of the Global Census of Marine Life on Seamounts.
• a digital archive for bathymetric seamount maps that can be viewed and downloaded in various formats.
• a partner of the Census of Marine Life project, the mission of CenSeam is "to determine the role of seamounts in the biogeography, biodiversity, productivity, and evolution of marine organisms, and to evaluate the effects of human exploitation on seamounts."
Research Lab Sites
Expedition Sites
• field updates on expeditions sponsored by NOAA's Office of Ocean Exploration.
• a UK-based project aiming to bring real marine science into the classroom.
• an interactive distance learning web site designed to immerse you in the excitement of discovery and exploration of the deep seafloor.
