An October Weekend in Lafayette

Does your gas grill have a tail?

One of Cody's favorite passtimes is monitoring the anoles around the house. On this weekend, I thought she was excited about one hiding on the gas grill...

...but when I lifted the cover, here is what I found!

I encouraged the visitor - a Texas Rat Snake - to leave the grill...

...and go climb a tree.

Elsewhere in and around the yard, the bees are busy...

The first visit of an Eastern Phoebe to our yard. There appeared to be good flies for catching around the black knight plants.

A Northern Mockingbird enjoys the red grapes we put on the feeder.

The Ruby-throated hummingbirds squabble over the pink rattails.

The azaleas are already starting to bloom...

...and a few coneflowers still remain.

At night the nocturnal opossums come to eat the bird seed.
