Current Research Theme:

Internet of Things & On-demand Mobile Sensing

Research Interests:

Internet of things, Ubiquitous computing, distributed systems, context-aware and self-adaptive systems, mobile and cloud services.

I lead the IoT Research Lab (IoTRL) at University of Louisiana at Lafayette. At IoTRL, my students and I are actively investigating approaches that enable smarter environments and make IoT a reality. Our current research focuses on the main following themes:

(1) IoT Infrastructure. Building an open IoT platform that can be widely deployed and used to support the development of IoT applications through robust and integrated software stack with innovations at the core infrastructure and end-user levels. This will facilitate interoperability be- tween heterogeneous platforms and accelerate the IoT wide adoption. We take advantage of the elastic resource provisioning of cloud computing to augment the capability of IoT devices

(2) Privacy and Access Control. Developing a robust framework for dynamic access control and privacy that are well suited for IoT deployments and can lower the barriers for IoT and rabidly promote and adoption from the user perspectives. The cutting-edge technologies that we develop in this direction place end-users/data owners at the central authority to control how their data is shared and acceded by others.

(3) On-demand Sensing & Service Delivery. Designing and building the necessary infrastructure and required algorithms and tools that facilitate data gathering, storage, processing, and intelligent decision making in dynamic and heterogeneous IoT environments. We also address quality assurance and data management in mobile sensing Big Data. Prime challenges that are currently investigated include recruitment and allocation of data sources, data cleaning, data fusion, scamming detection, and query semantics and optimization.

At IoTRL we always look for talneted and enthusiastic students. We have several open positions for Master's and PhD students. Refer to IoTRL's website for additional information.
