Dr. Khattab has been involved for the last 20 years in Teaching, Research and Development (R&D). During which he worked on design and construction of prototypes for automated machines by reverse engineering method. He has research interests in analytical and experimental development of new processes for polymer composite materials for Aerospace and Automotive applications as well as in processing and, characterization of Nano-particles reinforced polymer composites. Dr. Khattab's research addresses a major thrust in materials research as well as a critical need in manufacturing of high-temperature polymer composites. His research focuses on understanding the fundamental knowledge of the processing-structure-performance relationships of composite materials which is required in order to tailor material properties to meet the needs of a specific application.

Dr. Chirdon has a variety of research interests in material science with expertise in the science and engineering of polymers and cementitious composites. His graduate work involved studying the optical properties of dielectrophoretically aligned short-fiber composites. His postdoctoral work involved the modeling of heat generation and transfer in concrete, where he invented a novel method for determining the transient thermal properties for reactive solids or semi-solids. His expertise in polymer science, structure/property relationships, finite element modeling, molecular weight characterization, and thermal characterization make him an strong collaborator for the Laboratory of Composite Materials.

Dr. Xiaoduan Sun is a Professor of civil engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Recognized as the highway safety research expert in Louisiana and as one of active safety researchers in the United States and the world, Dr. Sun has focused her research work exclusively on highway safety and has conducted 20 highway safety projects with about one million dollars in the past 10 years. She has published more than 30 papers and research reports on highway safety and has made about close to hundred presentations on highway safety in the last decade. As a selected panel member, Dr. Sun has served on nine NCHRP safety projects. The 28 years of experience in transportation engineering and roadway design has made Dr. Sun familiar with all highway safety issues in all 4E areas. She currently serves as member of TRB Safety Performance Committee (the one responsible for the first and sequential editions of HSM), ASCE Highway Safety Committee, Association of Transportation Safety Information Professionals, and Lafayette Safety Coalition. She is a registered engineer in the state of Louisiana and an Endowed John E. and Joretta Achee Chance Professor.

Dr. Gilbert Baladi is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Michigan State University. Professor Baladi's interests are in the areas of characterization of composite engineering materials used in transportation networks and building foundations. Specific research interests include emphasis on the fatigue and plastic properties of soils, unbounded materials, and asphalt pavements. Current research in these areas focuses on the behavior of soil subgrades and asphalt pavements under heavy vehicular loads. His research also includes the development of pavement performance prediction models and the back-calculation of engineering properties of layered systems. He is also quite active in technology transfer activities, managing and coordinating training courses for the Federal Highway Administration and the World Bank.
