Even in its relatively young life, the C.R.A.W.LAB has included members from a variety of countries, of a variety of religious faiths and ethnic backgrounds. Our team has included researchers from Bangladesh, India, Iran, and Nigeria. We’ve hosted visiting scholars from Brazil, China, Korea, and Japan. We’ve worked with researchers from the Czech Republic, Egypt, Italy, and Spain. For most of the life of the lab, our rate of female participation has been significantly above the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and national averages for STEM fields. The rich diversity of our members and collaborators has and will continue to be a critical factor in the lab's success and a core part of our lab culture. Because of this, and because we believe that it is simply the right thing to do, we must continually strive to make the environment in the C.R.A.W.LAB one that is inclusive and welcoming. Toward that goal, our lab follows the code of conduct outlined below.
The C.R.A.W.LAB is dedicated to providing a harassment-free research and education experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size/type, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of lab members, lab guests, or outside collaborators in any form. We are kind to others and behave professionally.
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size/type, race, religion; sexual images in public spaces; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention.
We expect all C.R.A.W.LAB members to behave in a manner that is respectful, inclusive, and kind to others and act in a way that is free of harassment. This behavior is expected of members at any lab-related activities, including, but not limited to, day-to-day work, academic conferences, contests in which we are representing the lab and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, lab tours, and trips to collaborating companies or other laboratories, both domestic and abroad. Furthermore, we encourage our lab members to follow these guidelines even in activities not related to the C.R.A.W.LAB. Respect, kindness, and inclusiveness need not be limited to the lab.
Members asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact Dr. Vaughan immediately. If Dr. Vaughan is the cause of your concern, please contact a department or college-level administrator. If you would like to keep your communication anonymous, you may use a service like AnonymousEmail.me. We may not be able to reply to anonymous complaints, but we will fully investigate them and take action as necessary. If you feel that you are in immediate danger, please contact the University of Louisiana at Lafayette police.
This code of conduct was adapted from those found at http://ivory.idyll.org/lab/coc.html and http://github.com/leftlogic/confcodeofconduct.com, which themselves were patterned after those of the Ada Iniative and JSConf.
