Space Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS)

Our project is focus on the development of ordered mesoporous carbon materials which are used for the LaSPACE-NASA. As known to all, ECLSS is a vital issue for astronauts during a mission, especially the supply of clean water. Thus, we try to find the innovative materials which can remove the organic matters commonly found in hygiene and urine waste streams produced in space. Ordered Mesoporous Carbon (OMC) has high specific surface and high adsorption capacity, which can significantly reduce the weight and resupply needs. Our group concentrated on the synthesis and modification of the OMC. Our objective is to improve the adsorption capacity & Specificity of the OMC.
