This project is a partnership with the Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS), via their GEAR UP program. We're working to encourage participation in STEM fields and prepare students for postsecondary education by introducing and supporting an interesting and challenging robotics project progression for local students. The progression will begin by supporting GEAR UP student participation in the MCHE201 robotics contest here at UL Lafayette. Following that contest, the GEAR UP students will prepare a CanSat to be launched at ARLISS. The students will then progress through SeaPerch, followed by RoboBoat or RoboSub entries in those AUVSI Foundation contests.
From the LPSS GEAR UP website:
GEAR UP: Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs … is a competitive grant program of the U.S. Department of Education that increases the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education by providing States and local community-education partnerships six-to-seven year grants to offer support services to high-need, middle and high schools.
